Fundamental in the kitchen
In the kitchen, as in life, the details make the difference. Using fresh (not dried) aromatic herbs gives our dishes a depth and superior taste that enhance whatever we put on the table. Enriching a pizza with basil, making a Genoese pesto, adding it to salads and bruschetta, or even eating a few raw leaves is always delicious! This is why many people grow it directly at home; it is a simple plant available for sale in many shops. If this is your case and you want to ensure that your plant not only survives but continues to sprout throughout the summer, avoid making these five mistakes.

1. Do you water it right?
When the basil is ripe, and the temperatures are warm, you must water it every morning, when it's not too hot, so the water can descend into the ground before evaporating. The earth must be moist, not wet. There must be no stagnation at the pot's base to not weaken the plant's roots.

3. Pests and molds are enemies
Basil is not only liked by us but also by parasites and molds! If you find them on the plant leaves, remove them by hand. If, on the other hand, you notice that the plant has signs of mold, try leaving it in the sun for longer after giving it more space.

4. How to collect leaves
This is one of those things that many have never thought about! When choosing which leaves to get from your basil plant, start with stems where new small leaves are already growing at the base. By doing so, you will make sure that you release energy for the little ones born, encouraging the plant to germinate.

5. Conservation of leaves
Basil is a very generous plant; it produces more than we can consume. That is why, since nobody likes to waste, it is good to know how to store the extra leaves that we will have. First, wash them, dry them, and place them on a sheet of kitchen paper. Then roll it up, put it in a bag, and then in the fridge. Freeing the plant from the most giant and mature leaves will help it renew itself while remaining healthy.
